FAQs:
Q: What kind of organization is Arts Partners?
A: Arts Partners is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts-in-education
organization.
Q: What do you mean by arts-in-education?
A: At Arts Partners,
arts-in-education means taking the arts into all areas of the
PreK-12 curriculum (language arts, math,
science,
social studies, etc.). Arts-in-education programs are ones in
which students learn about an art form (visual art, music, dance,
drama,
etc.) while enhancing learning in another area of the curriculum
as well.
Q: Why is it important to integrate the arts into the curriculum?
A: Current research has
found that integrating the arts throughout the learning process,
in addition to teaching dance,
music, theatre
and visual arts, significantly enhances students' cognitive,
personal and social abilities. To read more about current research click
here.
Q: What are some example of arts-in-education programs?
A: By
participating in an Arts Partners artist-led Geometric Name Design
workshop, middle school math students reinforce
their knowledge
of math terms while learning how to create artwork based
on radial symmetry. Other examples include:
- During
an artists’ residency with an Arts Partners musician,
third grade students retell a story through lyric writing,
enhancing both music and language arts skills.
- Reader’s
theater workshops provide an introduction to drama and
an opportunity for students to increase their fluency in reading.
- Students understand more about other cultures as they learn
folkdances from around the world.
