ViolinStructionDuring this hands-on workshop, students will learn about one of the oldest, yet currently used technologies. Constructed of -- and embellished with -- various woods, many of these instruments sell today for millions of dollars. The violin! First seen in paintings from the 1530s, violins are amazing amplifiers when featured as solo instruments. They also are the most prominent musical instruments in symphony orchestras and string quartets.
Students will examine the parts of a violin up close, discovering how sound is made through a vibrating, resonating chamber. Students will disassemble a real violin and bow, and then build a violin facsimile from the parts of the instrument.
Students will see cause and effect in action through slow motion videos. They will also learn that certain frequencies create visual patterns.
Put together our puzzle violins!
